I try to catch up on the story of our summer, especially with an episode rather athlete, a weekend of intensive Kayal - and when I say heavy, is not jokes, about 40 km in two days, 8 to 10 am on past water paddling.
All started Deep Cove. Deep Cove's been a year we hear about, especially by Marie who has already made a good half-dozen out at least. Deep Cove is located at the mouth of Indian Arm a inlet that goes north from Vancouver Harbour. The flagship activity there, so it is to rent kayaks for a few hours to tour the "Cove" in question, but you can also rent by the day and go on an expedition in the Indian arm ... what we did.
Expedition Kayak / camping then, starting at 11am on Saturday and return Sunday TBA
... Who says camping said tent, sleeping bags, food and plenty of water. We had a little scared when he saw our cumulative loading it does not fit (he had to choose between water and beer, tough choice!) But in fact we do not imagine Can it contain the kayaks, we could have put 1 / 2 more at least.
We are thus fully charged, two double kayak (Clot, Pau and yours truly), a single (William was unfortunately unable to free themselves, being in the home stretch of finishing his project and then Mary came only) and a double canoe with our three visitors alike, Natan, Julie and Roman.
We went up the arm along West Coast, which compared to the East Coast seemed to me the least "crowded" (but I may be wrong): a few houses on the edge of the first km and then after it's dense forest overlooking water.
We have breaks in the only two accessible beaches on this side, before arriving at our "campground."
It is forbidden to make bonfires on this coast, but is not counting on the ingenuity of Mac Guyver Pau, who came with his tray in aluminum, coal and a small grid . No way to skip the barbecue and we were treated to chicken, sausages and grilled vegetables occasion. Failing to "open fire", we still enjoyed in the late evening of a small fire tray quite respectable ...
When you see the condition of soil drying, you soon realize that a fire would not be a good idea ...
Romain, very impressed by the "Culinary care" Pau.
Yes we went camping, but there 's always a food issue some "standing"
The next day, a small expedition into the "inside". Brice, a true adventurer and heading to the ear, we dug up a small idyllic: a border stream of fresh water. There is really pure "Into the Wild" style "Lost": it makes its way through the vegetation to finally ask the banks of the river and enjoy the isolation (... to 8) .
We would have stayed there all day, but we must think of the return journey. It therefore gives all the boats to get more than 4-5 hours of paddling. The direct way that we enough, so we began to tour the island, which was opposite to have a look (by far) to the other side of the arm of the sea then back down south , against the current / tide-cons, who braved the waves is more lateral than motor boats (a bit too frequent around the corner) we swing generously ...
Lunch and snack on the same day that the small beach (only possible places anyway). The end of the journey is long, and the last quarter, which is trying desperately to see the dock, seems a bit endless. Suffice to say that on arrival about 18:30, it was not dragged, when the kayaks unloaded, sorted, rubbish removed etc. ... everyone went home or to go to bed: P
Overall a great week weekend anyway, not as "wild" we would have wished, because the area is frequented by boats motor up and down in 2 hours what we have done in 8, but a true summer getaway as we love both do (once a year ...).
thank you to Julie and Roman for the above itinerary that I blithely permitted to copy and paste from their blog ...
